Steel connection plates (gusset plates) are the bolted joints that hold trusses, beams and columns together. Below are three PL5-thickness plates from an actual fabrication drawing, including dimensions, hole layout, quantity and calculated weight.

All plates are 5 mm thick, with 12 mm diameter bolt holes.
· Size: 593 × 467 × 5 mm
· Hole pattern: 9 holes in 3 rows × 3 columns, edge distance 66 mm (side) / 34 mm (end)
· Application: truss chord-to-web connection, mid-span node

· Size: 1,096 × 220 × 5 mm (both ends chamfered)
· Hole pattern: 8 holes at 200 mm spacing (4×2), edge distance 148 mm
· Application: chord splicing, beam flange joint, purlin connection

· Size: 650 × 550 × 5 mm
· Hole pattern: 9 holes in 3 rows × 3 columns, edge distance 108/82 mm
· Application: eave node, support bearing connection, multi-member joint

1. Steel truss fabrication — connect chord members to web diagonals at every node; 9-hole pattern fits circular tube intersections.
2. Beam-to-column bolted joints — P24 long splice plate joins beam flanges in prefabricated steel frames.
3. Roof purlin & girt fixing — 5 mm thickness is sufficient for secondary member (C/Z purlin) connections.
4. Temporary works & bracing — bolted plates allow demountable connections for scaffolding, shoring and temporary steel structures.
5. Retrofit & expansion projects — bolted (rather than welded) plates reduce site work and fit existing structure upgrades.
· Thickness 5 mm suits light-to-medium loads; for heavy crane or seismic zones, use 8–12 mm plates.
· Hole diameter Φ12 matches M12 bolts; standard edge distance ≥ 1.5×hole diameter per code.
· All plates are laser or plasma cut from hot-rolled steel sheet (Q235B / Q355B).
