25m Steel Truss Trestle: HN250 Chords, Box Bracing, Built for Pipes

Steel truss trestles (pipe racks) carry pipes, conveyors and equipment over long spans. Below is data from an actual 24.85 m truss trestle.

How It Works

The parallel chord truss works as a deep beam:

Chords take axial force: top and bottom chords carry tension and compression

Webs take shear: diagonal and vertical members transfer shear

X-bracing stabilizes: cross bracing prevents lateral sway

Pipe racks on top: pipes and conveyors sit on top chord

Open web = light: open truss weighs less than solid beam

Advantages

Long span light weight — truss carries 25 m span at fraction of solid beam weight

Open for pipes — open web lets pipes pass through, no obstruction

Q355C toughness — Q355C steel has good low-temperature toughness

Modular panels — 3.05 m standard panels, repeatable fabrication

Bolted connections — truss nodes bolted, fast erection

Disadvantages / Limitations

Many members — truss has hundreds of parts vs one solid beam

Node fatigue — bolted nodes can fatigue under repeated load

Needs painting — exposed truss members need regular painting

Wind load — open truss catches wind, needs bracing

Inspection access — nodes high up, hard to inspect

Typical Applications

Pipe racks — industrial plant pipe support racks

Conveyor trestles — bulk material conveyor support

Pedestrian walkways — elevated pedestrian walkways

Power line supports — cable and pipe support structures

Mine trestles — ore processing plant trestles

Fabrication Notes

Chords shop-cut to length, web members cut to panel geometry

All nodes bolted with gusset plates, no site welding

D152×4.0 bracing bolted between truss panels

Channel 14a cross beams bolted on top chord for pipe support

All Q355C main members, Q235B secondary members

Steel truss trestle — 24.85 m long, 4.5 m wide, 14.7 m tall, HN250 top chord, HW250 bottom chord, box tube webs, D152×4.0 bracing, Q355C main steel, bolted connections, built for pipe racks and conveyor trestles.
